Members data held by the KCG is obtained in the first instance from members during their enrolment process and usually by completing a membership form produced by the KCG or an email requesting to become a member. The Membership List is normally revised annually in January. In order to preserve the privacy of members' data, it is not passed on or sold to third parties. Members' data is kept in electronic format solely by the Membership Secretary & IT Manager. The Membership List is only used by committee members to fulfil legitimate KCG activities such as communicating information to members, manage annual membership renewal and entrance to events or talks.
Members are entitled and welcome to examine the information we hold for them and request for any information to be changed or deleted.
The KCG comply with the new “General Data Protection Regulation” (GDPR) which comes into force on 25th May 2018 and supersseeds the current Data Protection Act which came into force on 1st March 2000. We are advised that GDPR originated in the European Parliament but will be fully absorbed into UK law regardless of the UK exiting the European Union. The regulation will apply across all EU member states including the Republic of Ireland, where it replaces the Acts of 1988 and 2003.
