Kingsdown beach groyne trial 2018-19

Dover District Council have recently published plans for a trial involving the placement of temporary groynes at both ends of the permanent wooden groyne structures on Wellington Parade, with a view to improving the retention of shingle on the beach. The temporary groynes will be made with ‘geobags’; large bags filled with shingle.

The trial will run from initial placement in April-May 2018 through to the end of monthly monitoring in September2019. Beach recycling is planned for May-June and November 2018, also in May-June and September 2019.

A report at the end of the monitoring period will inform placement of two permanent rock groynes, which will be constructed in September 2019 subject to Marine Management Organisation (MMO) licence approval and local authority (Dover District Council) planning permission.

Newsletters for residents are scheduled for June and December 2018, and September 2019.

We hope to make further details of the plan available on the website before long.
