          Since its launch in June 2010, Kingsdown Conservation Group (KCG) has grown from 12 to over 300 members. Our activities have included:<\/p>

          • Researched, written & designed the Kingsdown Conservation Area Character Appraisal;<\/li>
          • Planted spring bulbs around Kingsdown, distributed wildflower seeds to members & sponsored hanging baskets in the village;<\/li>
          • Raised hundreds of pounds for local good causes;<\/li>
          • Liaised with groups like Kent Wildlife Trust, Kent Downs Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Marine Conservation Society, CPRE, Deal With It & Kent Federation of Amenity Societies;<\/li>
          • Maintained dialogue with our MP, Parish, County and District Councillors about village issues;<\/li>
          • Published regular News Bulletins and stories in Rural Roundup and the East Kent Mercury;<\/li>
          • Devised and produced a CD to record the memories of long-standing residents;<\/li>
          • Produced a Heritage Trail Map featuring historic sites and other places of interest in the village;<\/li>
          • Sponsored the annual Kingsdown Garage Safari;<\/li>
          • Arranged a regular programme of events and talks;<\/li>
          • Kept a watching brief on planning applications, supported members with advice and guidance and, in some cases, campaigned hard against unreasonable development;<\/li>
          • Planted an oak at the village entrance to commemorate the outstanding life and bravery of Squadron Leader \u2018Ant\u2019 Downing;<\/li>
          • Supported the campaign for new sea defences for Kingsdown;<\/li>
          • Designed and published a Kingsdown village footpath map;<\/li>
          • Ran a village sustainability initiative & green ideas competition.<\/li><\/ul>

Kingsdown is a very special place with a unique character, touched by the giants of history like Julius Caesar, Henry the Eighth and the Duke of Wellington, profoundly influenced by the needs of sailing ships anchored in the Downs and nurtured over hundreds of years by the families of fishermen and farmers.
